Five months of torture in the plains....

Had to head out and fast, so we left Delhi on the evening of January 26, India's Republic Day. We had no idea how cold it would get, once out of the city and on the highway.

Four and a half hours, later we halted at Chandigarh for the night. Both of us (me and Rockass) were undecided where to go. After poring over the map for over an hour, we decided to take a call in the morning.

Next day, we hit the road at 8:00 am and arrived in Manali at 5:00 pm. There was snow, and we found a cosy little place with a fireplace and an awesome view to spend the night.

Next day, January 28, we got up to a steady drizzle at Manali. After breakfast at the German Bakery, we headed back. Near Mandi we consulted the map again and decided to head towards a place called Chindi. It was a real pleasure to get off the highway and onto the back country roads (state roads).

Narrow winding roads climbing up to the mountains....

Spent the night at Chindi, at over 2000 m.

On Sunday, Jan 29, we headed back from Chindi, via Tattapani, Naldehra and Shimla.

The road from Chindi to Tattapani was one l-o-n-g downhill ride.. Thereafter again a long climb upto Naldehra and then down down down from Shimla.

Once we hit the plains, low-altitude sickness started setting in...
